So the ducklings, dogs and I were all out noodling in the grass in the backyard. When suddenly al the ducklings starting freaking out.

My Black East Indie we’re trying to vanish into my legs peeping quickly but quiet lay. The Welsh Harlequin babies got really close to my male Tervuren then preceded to try and crawl into the small nook between him and the ground and hide in his very furry neck fur.

I look around to see what is causing this distress and see a hawk swooping down about an acre away. As it is I see this group of black birds with red on their wings swoop on it the hawk. I hear the hawk squack the pull up with this group of birds chasing it off the property.

Not the type of hawk attack you thought you would be reading about.

Some pictures of babies just because who doesn’t love them.

We have crows, grackles, and red winged blackbirds here that will take out after hawks to protect their flocks. It’s important for my ducks to have cover from airborne predators because I can’t always count on other wild birds to protect them. I’m glad your story ended well for your ducks.

Ive been getting a lot of hawk action just like that lately too. I won't let the ducks go outside the run anymore between the hawks and coyotes they wouldn't stand a chance.

Yesterday I had a hawk kill one of my hens, it was the first time ever for me. Worst part is the hawk ripped it apart and ate it in the yard. When I got home feathers were everywhere. So I'm trying something new. I put out a dozen duck decoys and a gobbler decoy in my yard. My thinking is that hopefully the gobbler will scare the hawks. But if it doesn't I'm hoping the hawk will go after a duck decoy first so my hens can get to safety in the coop. CD's getting put up today. My swimming pool is drained for a good cleaning. Once it's full again I'll put the ducks back in it. Only problem with that is that I get real ducks roosting in the decoys at night, cleaning their crap in the pool sucks.
