Hawk Attacked Head

The attack was 3/18 about 6:30 pm. so now almost 48 hours. At that time she was stuffed ready to roost. I think she can get water on own with lots of attempts but not sure how much since it drains out her open beak and uses dish not nipple.
Missy's not getting much food (or water?) except what i give her as evidenced by empty crop and observations of her behavior.
So she just got super greens juice via syringe and some classic hummus with oats and calcium by hand. I don't know how much is enough at this stage but the feeding is still stressing her. Though not as bad as before this round.
General inspection and cleaning between then and now. Crop still feels empty. Jaw seems aligned and can be closed by me, she makes near normal movements when swallowing. She's warm not cool like she got the first night.
Eye looking less swollen but not opening yet.
Will keep her in kitchen tonight as we're having freezing rain sleet and snow.
Any help on how much more to feed tonight or tomorrow?
Thanks in advance :hugs

It's gonna take me a long time to read all of the posts, so in the meantime, I will just start by saying that hydration and hypothermia must be corrected *first*. She needs no less than 5% of her body weight per day. That is maintenance and will not correct for any deficit.

If she were mine I would tube Pedialyte at 15 ml per pound of body weight, wait 60-90 minutes and repeat if crop clears or mostly clears, then one more time in 2-4 hours.

That should do a pretty good job of getting her intestines working. From that point forward I would tube 15 ml to 25 ml per pound of body weight a mixture of Kaytee Exact baby bird food (get at petsmart or petco) and I would tube that 2-4 times a day.

Weigh daily and increase volume if she loses weight.

Great info here:

Wow! That is just what I was looking for or at least a good start AND a super infomative website. Going to feed more in a few minutes. Thanks for your help!

You could sort by OP only ;)
Nice tip... never tried that :)

Update... using a 10 ml metal & glass syringe but no tubing so far. I don't want to hurt her injured mouth as gavage might do. It appears to be improving and she is exercising it a little every time something is squirted in. So 5 to 6 pound bird day 2 got about 20 ml soft food and 10 fortified liquid from me today. unless she managed more while she was in the coop which is possible. She is still trying!

In box with me now will give more in intervals. As much as will allow without me forcing or hurting her.
:fl With any luck tomorrow will be better yet. Eye just starting to open too.:fl

Works great to go past all the blather in long chatty threads.
Part of the search function, tho may not work well on some mobile devices.
I use a laptop.
