I agree wholeheartedly with you & crosbygroup....if any animal was attaching my child..in that moment I would defend my child by any means possible and check the endangered list later! I mean a tiger could be on the "endangered" list too and used to being handled and fed by humans but if it escapes from the zoo and ends up in my backyard attaching my child ...well, let's just say "By-By Kitty"!!!(LOL) and the same goes for any animal that poses eminent threat to my family! Now if it's not eminent danger then by all means call the authorities tell them that the dag on bird is stalking your children and let them handle biz...I'm not in any way promoting hunting down endangered species for fun. Just a good ol' girl from Jersey(of all places LOL)!!! Blessings, Keri

Do you really think fish and game would have a problem if you killed a hawk while it was attacking a child? Personally, if it came after my child I'd defend my child and call the wildlife people to come pick up the bird. I would not go out of my way to hunt down a bird, but I would go out and watch that my child was safe.

Red Tailed Hawks are on the ENDANGERED list. It really wouldn't matter to them. It is different with foxes, wolves, dogs, etc. But when it is an edangered animal Fish and Wildlife WILL take action.

I had my MIL taken by ambulance to the hospital after a hawk attack, the attack was reported to US Fish and Wildlife, it IS legal to defend yourself from any predator whether two legged, four legged, or winged.

I also had a friend who was arrested by Conservation officers for shooting a bear on a reservation without a permit. The bear was in full charge on the man's son and dropped within feet of his son. The charges were thrown out, and a official apology ensued with the officer eventually losing his job. Unfortunately the arrest affected his career as a officer in the army.

A hawk could cause serious scarring on a child that would mar that child for life. The constitution trumps wildlife protection laws.

OHHH I like Southerners!!!! Thanks for keepin it REAL!!! and helping us out on this blury issue!
PS. I just posted an add from craigslist for a guard dog...a good dog can help too! Keri

I hate the idea of some kind of wildlife taking my chickens or other birds, but they were here first. I had a hawk take my quaker parrot on Christmas Day 2 years ago, and yes, I was darn mad

. She was raised by me from a hatchling. They are just trying to live, afterall. We just need to keep our own critters safe from them.

I spoke with the gal I work with today and the hawk has not been seen since the day of the incident. The banty's were not in the run, but were free ranging around the main house...that's were the little girl likes to "play with them".
The uncle (also a coworker) has "cleaned up" the run with a few bales of straw to make it to the girls liking, she now interacts with the birds in the run when visiting.

I cant imagine that there is a person that would not use whatever measures necessary to protect their children, on the other hand I do not understand why it is important to speak to exactly how we would do that on a public forum. Just doesnt make sense to me.
