Hawk Battle

After reading your post, I am thankful for my crows! Any time a hawk comes around a flock('murder' is what a flock of crows is called)raises pure heck and chase it away. I used to shoot any crows that came around my property, but not anymore. They're not actually 'my' crows but they live in the woods on my land.

If you look on e-bay you can find aviary netting in the poultry supplies area really reasonable. That would protect them and you if ya made a run for them. The paranoia of attack is nothing to live with!

I do have a heavy netting above their run but I let them out to free range while I clean the coop. THey love picking around the grass and I guess the hawk just waited til my back was turned and swooped out of nowhere, I never knew he was there. Thanks for all the support guys, chicken people rule!!!

I think they like it because they will stay near me until the “ritual” is done. Then it is off to eat the bugs.

Just had the same experience about 2 weeks ago and had a redtail hawk on top of one of my Reds when I came out. I was able to scare it off and found out my other had dissappeared and later came back home after 2 or 3 hours hiding somewhere! The first Red which I thought was dead got up and ran back into the pen a little shaken but appeared to be fine! I now have the entire area wired off on top to keep them safe!

I shot at mine with the BB gun, missed, but at least I tried! My hubby shoots ME with it from across the backyard and never leaves a mark so I KNOW it won't kill the hawk (not my intention) BUT he left in a hurry!

I can hear his right now as I type..he is screeching in the woods! Hope thats not his hungry call!
