a box for now so if someone needs to lay
planning on attaching a lidded 5 gal. bucket
cut down a bit later, The tarp is for shade and shelter,
its attached with S hooks

So that's it, maybe next one will be more elaborate , but this one is keeping

Hawks have been very bad this winter. I credit this partially due to the harsh winter much of us have dealt with. I'm sure they are feeling the stress too and chickens running through the yard are easy prey. We lost one a while back due to a hawk. I'm hopeful when the leaves come back and other critters are roaming around that the hawks will not be as much of a threat. We have never had an issue with hawks until this winter.

Do your chickens ever lay eggs in yours?? Mine have not yet, but I've seen a couple of them to a "dance". It was like a "nervous pace" back and forth (I just called it a "dance"

), I've gone out there, lifted the side, and the one doing the "dance" RAN, I mean RAN her hynie back to her hen house, and got into the nesting box! It was kind of cute!!! Like a toddler learning how to go on the potty, and doing their darnedest to get to the toilet before an accident!! I think I am going to make up some kind of a box to put out in the yard when the weather is nicer.

My hens are doing exactly like yours, too funny I just keep a watch and let them out and follow them to the coop and shut the door to the run,and when they are done I'll hear them making allot of noise wanting me to come and let them out to join the rest of the flock, I m going to try a bucket and put a egg in it , I don't know if they will use it or not, They also make a certain sound when they need to lay.

I also thought about picking up some of the cheap and cheesy easter baskets (the ones you just want to throw away?), and maybe cut the handles off and throw some of their favorite bedding in it....? It would not work now (cause its wet and super gross muddy in my yard), but for the summer when its nice all day, it might be worth a shot.

Today was my first hawk attract no loss just a lot of feathers my roosters did a awesome job

Try using a cat litter box with a cover with bedding inside as portable nest boxes.
