We had hawks in the area plenty in the past, but only one serious hawk scare with a juvenile hawk and a biddy...I was able to scare it off (and it dropped the biddy luckily).We didn't have any other issues until today. I came home and went outside to visit my birds, and this hug hawk flew up from under a bush,where some of my girls usually hang out (they free range all day), to the roof of the coop. I found the girls hiding across the yard, and my son's favorite rooster "Bomb" under the bush where the hawk was feasting until I came along and disturbed him (He was to big to carry off I think). Sad day, but we know that Bomb was a great roo paying the ultimate price to protect his girls. I wish I could net the whole yard, but that is impractical for me so I have to keep hoping that my roos warn the girls in time and they listen to the warnings. (I also plan to plant more cover that doesn't lose most of its leaves in the winter.) I might need to put my bantams in a covered run though, because they would be easy to take off with for sure.
