He was sexed as a roo but at 18 weeks I’m not sure

In 2017 I had these two both where cockerels as thats what I ordered so this pic was about 17 weeks some mature faster then others but neither crowed and the smaller one didnt have saddle feathers

Tail feathers alone scream male and orps are slow to mature. Also everyone told me my lav was a pullet for weeks it didnt crow until 20+ weeks and didnt get saddle feather until then either. Id bet money on this being a slow maturing cockerel
I hope so! We wanted one rooster. Thank you!

Keep in mind that you cannot sex younger birds by tail feathers.

These are all pullets.

Just a little update, I got some better pictures of his feathers. I’m feeling more confident that this might be a boy!!

All I see is a shredded mess where the saddle should be. Updated pics of the face would be most helpful. I'd wait at least a week though. Give everything some time to do whatever it may do if it's a cockerel.

I have 2 speckled sussex cockerels hatched at the same time... one of them sprouted a huge comb and wattles out of nowhere at 10 weeks old (he was supposed to be a pullet). By 12 weeks he was crowing, tidbitting, and doing all the roostery things. They are now 16 weeks old and his brother, who I also thought was a pullet all this time, only just doubled in size all of a sudden and turned into a ball of feathers and hormones. His comb, wattles and tail got huge overnight. He is crowing like crazy and is desperately trying to mate (and with not as much finesse as his brother). I totally thought he was a girl 2 days ago!!! If yours is a girl she should start laying soon, so you shouldn't have to wait long to find out.
