Head bump, now one eye is solid white! PICS added!**2nd Update**

Thanks, Is there a way I can just give it to her? Not sure about dose. I don't have a way to keep her separate from the others.

It may be referring to 7 days to effectively those specific diseases. it still should be an option for a broad spectrum antibiotic. Don't you hate it that they have dosing on the package for masses of chickens? 2.65 oz package for 25 gallons water. Yikes now comes the math unless you do a search on the drug and someone else has figured it out already.

Is there a way you can kind of divide the area with some chicken wire and give her some individual space with her own water and food?

sometimes I separate my sick chicken out by putting her in a dog kennel in the garage.

I have a hen that I inherited who is blind in one eye ( has the white haze, and she does really well with one eye)

Keeping her separated will also ensure she doesn't get picked on and get a big peck on her head from one of the other chickens.

Hopefully the antibiotic will bring the swelling down and she will improve at least in one eye if not both. Make sure she is actually drinking enough water to get a clinical does of the medicine

I will calculate the dose for you. Do you have a crate or pet carrier to keep her in for a few days?

I am in the middle of making dinner but will get you a dose asap! I just wanted to be sure there was no other reason to not give it to older chickens but it is a good antibotic to use. I will work on the amount as soon as I can.

We do have an outside dog house that is right by the run, my husband may be able to fashion it into something for her. Thanks for your help. I know she will freak out being separated. When ever the others get out to the run before she can see well enough to get out I can hear her chirping for the others. Will she calm down after a while?

Thanks so much for your help!

I forgot to add that I do have a digital gram scale if that is needed for measuring dosage.

Oh cool! See what you get with the scale. I figured about a 1/2 tsp per gallon. See if you get the same.
Oh, I know she will be upset but it will be the best in the long run for her. Maybe allow her to be with the others for a little bit each day so she doesn't get lonely.
I hope this fixes her up! Let me know how she is doing!!!

How many days should I give this to her? Should i mix it fresh every day? I hope this helps her out. The dog house faces the run so she should be able to see and hear the others. DH will get working on the " med coop" tomorrow.

Thanks!

I would try to give it at least for 7 - 10 days but if you do not see any improvement at all by day 5 then I would say to stop, it isn't working. But if you even the slightest bit of improvement keep going the full course.
Yes, I would mix it fresh each day. When my guys were sick, I would mix it up in a gallon jug and refrigerate it. It will seem like a waste though because you know the little one will not drink a gallon per day.
Does she still seem to be doing OK otherwise, like eating, activity etc?
LOL.....yep, I learned quickly too you always need a little hospital area. LOL

Thanks, yes she does seem to be acting fine and eating and drinking ok. So it will be the 2 grams per gallon that the package says? Just making sure, I didn't know if it would be more because she is larger than week old chicks. I've been working on the spot for her, just need to make a small run for her and get another water fount.

I would do the 2 gms and I didn't see a whole lot more for further dosing for older birds. Also being bigger they will drink more so they will actually get more medication in them that way too. Good I am glad she is doing fine otherwise!
I know she won't be happy being separated but it won't be too long she will have to do that! She will just need extra cuddles from you!
