Health officer said my chickens must go....My kids are very upset!!

You know I am thinking of starting a new religious movement where in all members would be required under the guidelines of our faith to consume untainted eggs. The basis of this new religion would be that eggs are a symbol of life and thereby must be consumed fresh. What do you guys think, I mean they can not infringe on your religious beliefs and animals used in religious ceremonies are exempt from zoning laws....I'm just saying....I mean if you have enough members they have to recognize your church. I mean we're protestants but I think there's room to add new beliefs....

Does anyone want to join the order of the egg? I mean that getting to keep animals for religious reasons applies to everyone except us so maybe we should start our own...Hubby is actually taking this seriously looking into it! LOL

Just convert to paganism...

"Easter celebrations were held hundreds of years before Christ was born as festivals of spring honoring Eostre, the great mother goddess of the Saxons. This name was fashioned after the ancient word for spring, Eastre. The goddess Ostara was the Norse equivalent whose symbols were the hare and the egg. From this comes our modern tradition of celebrating Easter with eggs and bunnies.

In the Mediterranean region, there was a pre-Christian spring celebration centered around the vernal equinox (March 20 or 21) that honored Cybele, the Phrygian goddess of fertility. Cybele’s consort, Attis, was considered born of a virgin and was believed to have died and been resurrected three days later. Attis derived his mythology from even earlier gods, Osiris, Dionysus, and Orpheus, who also were supposed to have been born of a virgin and suffered death and resurrection as long as 500 years before Christ was born. The death of Attis was commemorated on a Friday and the resurrection was celebrated three days later on Sunday.

There are other Easter traditions that are pagan in origin. The Easter sunrise service is derived from the ancient pagan practice of welcoming the sun on the morning of the spring equinox, marking the beginning of spring. What we now call Easter lilies were revered by the ancients as symbols of fertility and representative of the male genitalia. The ancient Babylonian religions had rituals involving dyed eggs as did the ancient Egyptians.

The Christian version of Easter is celebrated after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Modern day neo-pagans usually have their spring celebrations on the day of the equinox. Either way, these celebrations have gone on every year continuously for over 2500 years. So, next Sunday, if you go to an Easter sunrise service, hunt for colored eggs or eat marshmallow bunnies, remember you are indulging in pagan rituals that celebrate fertility and the advent of springtime!"

I take it that the commissioner is also the health commissioner like a police commissioner. The police commissioner in some states have police powers, it probably would be the same for the commissioner of health and safety.

I take it this is a small town and you probably have a complaining neighbor. The health code is a catch all for any activity even if you have big BBQs and invite hundreds of people. A health issue can always be attached. It could be and has been attached for people who have hot tub parties. The part of the code that refers to you that is most often used it the health and welfare to your neighbor part of the code. This can be a odor of manure EVEN if there is no odor. Just that the neighbor claims it.

Being Part Indian, Could make a difference. Look into it! Unfortunately When I was getting my residency here in the states I'm only 1/16 Indian that was not enough to benefit me.

What you posted in the bylaws, seem to only apply if you are making money from the chickens.
I suggest you do not make any money from them and it will not apply to you.

Yes I agree there is a discrepancy in the wording, ask for written confirmation, and back it by doing the leg work yourself and find it in the Court files or Council files yourself.
(There is a incident in my town that a paper was produced, but is not true. Someone just typed up what would work for them.)

Unless the health officer can find hard evidence to a health issue, I'd think he does not have a leg to stand on. He would need to find a Communicable disease or air born parasite, and confirm it with tests! (I would think.)

You have children, Look into the 4H club, they can issue a special permit allowing your chickens! If you become a member!

That's all I can think of at the moment, I'm sure there is more!

What ever you do, please do not get rid of your chickens, Until all avenues have been taken.

P.S. I want to be a member of your religious sect. SERIOUSLY!
