We had guests this week and they have been at our house now for a few days. They have two dogs and there had not been a problem until this morning. I went into the run and let all of the chickens out then I fed them and went into the house to get ready for work. A little bit later one of my guests came in and told me that one of his dogs just killed one of my chickens. I went outside and Pegleg was dying. I'm just so sad for her. She was the sweetest of my girls. Shy but wanted to trust. She laid a big beautiful huge white egg every single day. She had a croaky voice and truly was one of my favorites. I requested that he put her down and clean up the mess. I thought she was the only casualty but he then informed me that there was another and I found out it was my baby rooster that I raised from a chick. I think he most likely died defending Pegleg.
