Heartsick

I'm so sorry for your loss and the tough decisions you had to make. Hope you and the kids stay safe and hoping for the best possible turnout. Please let us know how you're doing :hugs

This is a time, when one can say, just chickens. Having seen prairie fires, the picture of animals running from a fire are a hollywood idea. I have seen them just standing there with the flames not far away. If you had let them out, or left them locked up, I think the smoke would have gotten them. I know you are feeling bad, but look at all you did, family is safe, horses are safe, a few memories and pictures are safe. I sincerely hope that you have been spared, but if not, you do have the really important things. So very sorry, and I will pray for strength.

Oh my God: the chickens are alive!!! The coop, barn and studio were spared and the chickens the heat and smoke and lack of water in 80 F weather for a day and a half. A friend put their waterer in the coop for them this afternoon and gave them a slice of alflafa - feed was in the house and that’s burned to the ground along with a cottage on the chicken meadow. My friend hat to go on foot...
Alflafa was in the barn. I hope this will help. Tried to get them out early evening but was turned away again. Fire coming down the hill with huge flames made me think of Mordor...
I will drive up again tomorrow morning - please keep your fingers crossed that the chickens are still well and I can go get them out!

Thank you for all your kind words and comfort - it helps me so much.

Oh Wow! So sorry you lost your house but what a blessing in amongst the turmoil and heartache that the chickens survived and what a great neighbour to see to them for you! I'm sure we will all continue to keep our fingers crossed for their continued survival. Sending positive thoughts.:fl

I'm sorry about the house, hope you have insurance to replace your things. It's great the chickens are ok and what an awesome neighbor to look in on them for you! Will be thinking about you and your neighbors today and hope that fire is out soon.
