Heat Lamp all night or no?

Could you use a plant starter mat? It's plastic and would clean up well rather than a cloth covered heating pad. ??

We had a very warm February here in Florida. 20 days ago, I hatched 18 chicks. I took them outside on their first day. I only kept them in the brooder for seven nights. Then on day seven, I wrapped a heating pad in a towel at night and they've been living outside since then. They seem very comfortable and happy.
