Heat lamp? Cheaper way to heat?

Pics
I have a 250watt Heat lamp bulb and its running my electricity bill up like mad. The chicks are 3 weeks old and still need heat. Is there a cheaper alternative? Something that uses less power? I'm switching to a 120watt now But will keep an eye on them. Thanks for any advice!

Hi..I use a chicktec brooder..the sort they hide under which is safer and cheaper to run than a heat bulb , gives a natural night/ routine as no artificial light.just hear and doesn’t deplete vitamin D.
In the past in emergency power cuts or bulb failure ..I used a solar panel heat pad..hot water bottle ..microwave wheat pad..hand warmers and even a normal light bulb gives off sufficient heat if in a centrally heated room with a sided brooder!

Okay, okay...let's not hijack the OPs original thread here. A "truce" has been called, once both sides of the debate clearly - and I thought very civilly - presented their view, and it's all good. I believe strongly in MHP, and the other person does not. If there was only one way to "correctly" raise chicks and chickens, this entire web site could be read in half an hour. :lau

I think that @click cluck has received some very viable options to finding cheaper ways to warm chicks. Goodness knows there are many, and each has their merits! That, my friends, is the true value of BYC!

I use a 125 watt heat bulb and get my chicks later in the spring so I'm only using for a few weeks. Patience is a virtue in getting chicks, and saves money.
