Heat lamp & nearly a fire - Alternatives?

I bought an EcoGlow and can't wait to use it with my chicks (coming in August!) I have the smaller one and might buy a second one so the 16 aren't too crowded under there. I have heard nothing but good things about them!!!

What are the dimensions of the EcoGlow 50 (bigger one)?

My husband is building me a brooder that I will use a regular bulb in, but it will be kept in the house. The lumber cost $24, the wire bottom material was 11.99, I think the light sockets are just a few bucks. So, I'm getting a decent sized brooder that will hold several chicks up until they are about 2 weeks old for under $40.

Here you can see my Chick-n-hutch in the garage which is my garage brooder. It has three ceramic socket clamp lamps ($12 each) with a 100 watt bulb in each. I can also go down to 60 watt depending on the temps and age of the chicks.

I turn more lights on as needed. It works great, and I secure them two ways with metal wire PLUS I use the clamp. I only need the 3 lamps on in the dead of winter.

problem with regular light bulbs if they are in house they are noisy ALL night and some tend to peck....

If I ever have more than my ecoglows can handle I use a red heat lamp iin the house with a battery operated smoke detector to catch any issues it may have

my 6 weekers flip it over and sit on the heating part every now and then

only reason they even have it is because we have been having screwy weather...today in 70's...few days ago high was in low 50's...but good thing with these is it didn't create any hazard...
