Heat lamp removal at 8 weeks

I sincerely do not understand why businesses don't hand people information papers when selling chicks...like hey..this is what they should eat..this is what bedding they need..this is the temp they need..then a list of products..in the store. It would be good business too...

Every time I've sold chicks or POL pullets on Craigslist I have included a BYC business card.

I’m so sorry for your losses. If they’re just eating cracked corn, they need a LOT better of a diet than that. And they might be over heated, too. I’m sorry.

Yes, so sad. Whenever I got chicks, I would only receive a box (with a bit of bedding) chicks, and a receipt. Nothing more.

I have a handout typed up of the basic chick necessities.

Don’t they? TSC and McMurrays did when I bought my chicks. Maybe not a complete check list of ‘potential’ needs from TSC, but most certainly they gave standard written information on basic needs including type of food, need for water, shelter, pine shavings, heat. They even had info on how to dip the chicks beak to teach them where the water is.
Most people that buy chicks from a farm store should be able to see the chicks in a bin, with heat, food, water and pine shavings; that’s a big clue, but clearly not all use their eyes.

Peoples incompetence can be astounding..I usually buy at the co op. Mostly farmers there..

Same here..never have I received a "needs" paper (not that I need it). I prefer buying at a co-op in a town over. My chicks have always been healthy from this one. And they don't have a minimum order..I can buy 2 if I so choose.

Same here. I get them at my local co-op. At TSC, I went to get some nutri-drench (the co-op was out) and I saw multiple dead chicks in the brooder. I told them, but they didn't take care of it for at least an hour. (I may have had a slight meltdown)

But if we want to discuss this further, we can do so somewhere else. :)
