I am wondering what is best a regular heat lamp or an infra red bulb? I currently have a regular heat lamp on 11 3 wk old babies. Just moved them outside today.

I prefer birds to get a normal day-night cycle, so use a brooder heat plate or a heat bulb that does not supply light. Using a red bulb would supply less light than a regular light bulb, but still some light at night.

I used the red infra red bulb less light at night and mine had no problems adjusting to a normal day/night schedule once moved to the coop, but as chicks they were active all night with the heat lamp (red bulb)

I still have the heat lamp plugged in in case they get a bit chilly. Otherwise they are out in taking in the sun. All are happy and doing great.
