Put them both at the same end, so all the heat is in one place so when the birds want to 'cool' down they can go to the other end, and when they want to warm up the can return to the heated end or idealy they find their perfect temp somewhere in the middle...
As repeated get rid of the blanket, they need lots of ventilation not stale trapped hot air that takes away from the gradient heat from hot to cold side...
