Heat Stress Produces Soft Eggs...with TAILS*UPDATE BELOW

Houston, we have a problem. Lorelei produced, after sitting and sitting and sitting in a nest, the contents of an egg with no membrane or shell. We took her in to sit her in a warm bath for a half hour then used the blow dryer, still nothing. She keeps straining like she feels something still in there, but we can't feel it ourselves. Got late so we took her back to the coop till tomorrow. I'd hate to lose her; she is a real sweetheart with an endearing personality and a really good layer, to boot.

I hope she's ok.

Good luck to you and your girl.

Hi! I know this is a super old thread, but it's exactly my situation right now...just wondering Speckledhen, what happened? Many years ago....sorry to dredge it up! My poor Rosie is exhibiting the same behavior and has laid an egg that looks almost identical to the one you showed in the beginning of this thread. Now she's hanging out in the nestbox constantly and doesn't want to leave. Yikes! Here's a link to my other post from last night:

Cause for concern?
