Our Australorps don't even seem to notice the 97 degree temps we've been having day in and out,. and the humidity has been in the 80% range,.. while the others are panting and hiding in the shade,. the Aussies are out grazing and laying their eggs like it's nothing! I have to say,. out of all my chickens,. they are the most low maintenance,. quietest, sweetest,.. layers of great eggs!

Very cool! Are they aggressive??

No not all.

Another good hot weather layer is a Blue Andalusian or a white faced black Spanish.

Good to know. I had read somewhere that the Sumatra were aggressive. Thanks for the info!!

Not sure exaclty where Lacomb is, but I was in Lake Charles, and the weather here is similar to there, except I think it's hotter here in the summer because we aren't on the coast and don't get that gulf breeze.

I have Rhode island red juvies...no eggs so far but I was told they were good egg layers for here in North MS(fingers crossed). 95degrees and 90% humidity....UGH

Sounds like us! Last couple days has been overcast and in 90's but had 100+ for the week prior to that.

Well I have a mixed flock, and it has been over a hundred degrees for days at a time. My best egg layers are my Minorcas, Leghons and white rocks.

My birds aren't laying yet, but here where I live the heat index is around 110. The ones who do the best are my thin birds like the Phoenix and my leghorn. I also have some barred rocks and Easter Eggers and such and they lay around and pant during the hottest parts but recover once it cools a bit. My two Cochins seem to be the ones bearing the load so to speak. Don't get cochins!

I'M glad you told me that. Was going to get some as I've heard they are sweet. I'm leaning toward the leghorns. Wish they laid brown eggs lol.
