I have two heated bases, with three gallon metal waterers on each, in separate areas of my coop. They work fine for about 35 to 40 birds over the winter. We buried a water line to the coop with a frost- free hydrant, so filling is a cou[ple of feet from the coop door. Wonderful!
In years past, with fewer birds, I carried water 150 feet to them. It got old, over ice and through snow, so the buried water line is great!
