IF I brood in our spare bedroom would I need a heater when the temps outside are 90s - 100. The room has no AC and no fan. Wouldn't it be warm enough for the babies?

ETA: We are in southeastern Georgia where it is hot as a witches tit these days. :D

TIA,

L

The one year I got chicks and was very warm I only ran the heat at night for a week or two. If the temperatures truly stay that warm consistently you shouldn't need extra heat.

Hopefully someone in a warmer climate than me can help out too with their experiences.

And yet I thank you for stepping up and responding.

Don't want to spend funds on the plate if it can be spent elsewhere; say like on chicken started feed. :idunno

You might not need a heater but you will need a new house. Just kidding. Chicks make a phenomenal mess when they're feathers grow in so I always use the back porch or the garage and a heat lamp.
We've got a stupid dog, free ranging, on the property (pitt mix). Need I say more. HE says we need a dog; I say get rid of her for chickens. Oh well.

If you put some plastic sheeting or a tarp down you will mitigate some of the mess. I brooded in the laundry room once and had a hell of a time wiping down the walls after. The floor was linoleum so that was good. You can buy a heater and see how the chicks act the first couple days-if they are huddled together they're cold, etc and then return it if they don't need it

Good idea. I would probably keep for future use though. :love

Absolutely not.
I would not add any heat on them if the room is 90°.
