When my adult roo Thor was a youngster, he didn't know how to mount the girls for mating. He insisted on mounting them sideways, the same way you'd mount a horse side saddle. It took a long time but Thor finally figured it out.
Now I have an 11 week old turken cockerel named Rosie in the baby coop, with a bunch of pullets the same age. I was just out there when one of the pullets started screaming bloody murder. I looked and Rosie was trying to mount one of the EE pullets by standing beak to beak with her, reaching over to grab her neck and climbing over her head.
I resisted the urge to holler instructions to him. It never helped Thor anyhow.
