Thank you. I'll pass on the compliments to her

Temperatures in the 100s for a day or two may not be a problem, but if it's hot for a longer period of time they show clear signs of feeling uncomfortable beyond 90 already.

If you would feel like in a sauna when wearing a winter coat and would seriously suffer, it would be too much for the birds, too. Heat stroke in a heat wave is not unheard of. They also don't lay that well when it's hot. HTH

I just have to ask. . . .

What makes these birds more cold tolerant than others? Because Silkie feathering sure isn't it. I'm really curious.

I think they have more feathers or something. I had always heard that silkie feathering doesnt hold in the heat or cold. But after having Silkies in a non insulated, non heated barn over winter when the temps often are 25 below, I know that it has no negative effects.

Add me to the list of really liking these, I think that they would love it here in Northern MI, cool summers,

but too much month left at the end of the money right now, would love to have a trio or quad.

It could be a great breed for the Northern US and Canada, being able to afford them on a fixed income is the cruncher. But would love to get a pair or trio to grow out. I'll be looking forward to seeing their numbers grow. And hoping for a special on them of some kind. Its the best thing I have seen for us in a long time. Still have a lot of snow here, 21 this morning which seems like a spring breeze after the past couple of weeks.

I want some but afraid they might suffer in the heat here like the Icelandics might. It does freeze in the winter here but the summers are hot (up to 100) and very humid. The rest of the year is pretty nice

I know Greenfire Farms is in Fl too but thought I read something about them over summering thier cold loving birds in a colder state....

Yes, I read on their webpage that they were building a place in Montana for them, seems like a better year round for them, other then NC MI

I think they would be very comfy in our cooler summers.
