I have a thread talking about why I'm getting a rooster, but, you obviously haven't seen it so i will reexplain. We had a parking lot donation at the farm I work at today. We found 2 Australorp Roosters, and a bunny, that someone had just dropped of and let loose. We captured the 2 roosters and they were put up for adoption to staff and students. I am a student there and I caught one of the roosters.
He seemed fairly tame and like who could be a good pet if trained correctly and consistently. Therefore, I am considering adopting him as a pet. No one else will adopt him, we have to many roosters as it is and if no one adopts him within the week he will be killed. The other one is under consideration for adoption and will probably be saved. The second doesn't have much of a chance, as the first one was extremely lucky with the chance of adoption.
So I am going to take him and keep him in a trial period with a bunny cage, a small animal pen, and a large backyard, probably for a just a few days. If he adapts well to my animals and home, and if he isn't to loud during the day and my neighbors do not mind. I will keep him, and build him a better coop for the hotter summer months and cooler winter months. I hope to eventually turn it into a flock of chickens and roosters but, as it is I might just be able to save him. I think him living as a pet rather then being eaten is better, don't you?
