For those of you who show your roos. How long does it take for the comb to heel after dubbing? Also is there any need to separate them after dubbing until things start to heal?
I have a roo I'd like to show latter this summer the show is in the middle of July and I'm wondering if I dub him now if it will be healed up well enough to show him.

edit: i would wait until the swelling goes down, and turns back to a normal color before showing him... it will take different times based on the bird itself...

Thank you SouthernSickles! That is very helpful. I have two hens, and I'll take a look at their tails and see which has the best tail angle to match with him. Neither of the hens have that problem with fluff, but I think its more of a rooster thing, isn't it?

The dogs are very good with my chickens but 'always' supervised.

Hey! So far this seems to be a really cool thread but I have a question. Sorry if this has been asked before but if you cross a BBR with another BBR will you get a BBR? And likewise for self blues, blues, and blacks? The reason being is that someone with these varieties gave me an OEGB egg to hatch out and I'm just wondering if I will get a pure color. I don't care about show quality I just want to know. Thanks!

I can't speak for the other colors, but a BBred x BBred will breed true. I've seen a whole batch of chicks hatch from BB red parents, and all are BBred. I think the OEGB has been bred long enough that many colors are true, though I'm sure there are some that are still "project" colors that people are working on.
