I am new to chickens, having only had mine since March ‘19

I have 9 laying hens currently laying, 1 rooster, 4 pullets, and 5 ducklings.

My laying hens consist of 3 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Barred Rocks, and 3 Australorps. They were all raised together (not by me). My rooster is an Easter Egg, but I think he’s beautiful. 4 Pekin ducklings 1 Rouen. My chicks are approx 8 weeks and as horrible as it sounds, I honestly do not know what they are.

I love the fresh eggs and kiddos are loving the process of watching the babies grow.

We moved to nowhere TN from Phx in July of 2018. We went from a 0 lot line property in the big city, to a small 9 acre farm. I have 2 kiddos, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 goats. 2 was the number until I got to the fowl That got a little out of hand! LoL With the move, I decided to be a stay at home mom, and it’s the toughest, most thankless, and absolutely most rewarding job I’ve ever had!

I found BYC the night I brought my girls home and thought it was time to quit being a stalker and join the fun! Also, I have a buff Orp who’s gone broody on me, and I decided this morning to let her give it a go!

Thanks for having me! I look forward to learning more on this adventure!

Hello and :welcome we are so glad to have you here! :jumpy One of those chicks (the one in the front with a big red comb) looks like a male. He's pretty :)

Interesting. Thank you for your input. I’m rather excited about the possibility of introducing another male to my flock although that was t my intention. Supposedly they were sexed. I got them about a week old. That picture is from a week or 2 ago. Looking at the chick now, the comb is not nearly as red as the picture would suggest, but the comb and bird in general are significantly larger than the others all hatched at the same time.
Edit: You’ve got me incredibly curious. I’ve spent days staring at these chicks and never really gave it a thought that he/she may not be female until you mentioned. I just pulled the chick in question and another out to do some comparing. Along with the difference in size of the chick and the comb, I also noticed the tail feathers are shaped differently and are a lot fuller in a more pronounced upright position. I’ve added another picture I just took. Guess it’s time to do more research on sexing!
