Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC, the place to be! We love to hear stories about how people began their flock. Since I assume you are going off to college soon, I will try to not tempt you into getting more chickens (a minimum of 16), waterfowl (Pekin are a good choice!) or quail.
Actually, you need quail. They are tiny, and cute. They are pretty quiet, lay plenty of eggs (taste like chicken! :lol: ), and are not shy about rushing to you when you have food.

BUT, I am glad your parents were eventually accepting of them. It sounds like you have a wonderful assortment now- good on you rescuing a few! Hopefully you have been able to prevent further predator losses (so sorry for the ones that have passed). It is so nice to hear that you consider them to be like family members. It's wonderful that you've been able to change the opinions of folks for the better, and educate them to how intelligent chickens can actually be.

I'd love to see photos of your flock, and also your artwork. You mentioned aviation- have you ever been able to fly a plane? I've always wanted to learn but have yet to find the opportunity. Best of luck in your job at the restaurant, and I am glad you're enjoying it.
