Hi Plester01
We're almost neighbors! Well, sorta... we're in Dahlonega - about 10 miles northeast of town not too far from Camp Merrill if you know where that is. We're in the Appalachian foothills. I can't wait to get some chickens, but will have to wait until we move there full time. But, I can learn a lot first and hang out with you guys.
Cookinmom, where is St. George? For some reason, I'm thinkin' it's near the ocean... hmmmm...
Hey Bubba - now is that a southern name or what? North Georgia is very different from Florida! It would be solid forest if people weren't around to clear land here and there. From what I've observed, it's about 10 degrees cooler at our farm than in suburban Atlanta - so that is nice. We're in the Appalachian foothills and elevation near us is around 3,000 feet. The tallest peak in Georgia - east of where we are - is Brasstown Bald and is 4784 feet. The Appalachian Trail starts very near our little farm.
It's very humid here - maybe not quite as bad as in Florida, but it's pretty bad - even in the mountains in the summer. Global warming might swallow up Florida, but it might dry out Georgia. We've been having terrible droughts here for the past few years. Nothing like when I was kid when it would rain for weeks at a time. I miss the rain!
Thanks for the warm welcome guys! My DH is going to the farm today to get coop pictures for me, so I'll post 'em next week on the coop forum. My computer is down at home, so no internet connection this weekend.
