Welcome to BYC!We’re an Aussie family living on the Central Coast NSW.
Me: Kerry
Partner: Dean
Son:Eli
Mum: Pam (has dememtia)
We are not new to chickens but haven’t had them in about 10 years. We were renters but now we own our own home we decided to get a few little fluffy butts in the backyard because we loved having chicken so much!
We decided on Pekin Bantams as we’ve had them before and are so cute! Perfect for our average size Aussie back yard.
Meet the girls! Well we are hoping they are all girls.
Nugget the lightest coloured one has me worried that she may be a cockerel with the comb redding up quicker than the others.
Pearl is the biggest and has I think partridge pattern on her wings.
Buffy is the buff coloured chick.
They were suppose to between 2 and 4 weeks old when I purchased them of a breeder just before Christmas. We have had them 2 weeks and 3 days now and love them all! I think they are a little older? What do you guys think?
I’m getting a lovely sun tan spending my days out in the yard watching them.
Question time!
How old should they be before I let them free range around our fully fenced secure yard?
I let them out a few times a day but they are easily scared and run back into their coop. Should I just leave the door open now and see how they go or wait till they are a bit older?
Next question
Do you think Nugget is a boy or a girl?
Yes Mum does love them! We also have a cat and little dog so she has them all to watch and cuddleOh such cuties I hope they all are girls. I'm so glad you dive in and got chickens , what an adventure they are.
Question love
Does your Mum love them? I've worked in elderly homes and they usually love animals.
