Barred Rock, Buff Orpington and Easter Eggers are good all-around dual purpose breeds that are usually pretty friendly.

I also like barred rocks, but I love my Brahmas. Marans and wyandottes have great personalities as well. My crested cream legbars are pretty flighty girls! Great broodies though, as it turns out
