I have had chickens since 2014, when I got my first batch of 5, followed by another 4 - chicken math from the start! ;0) Since then I got another 5 in 2016, then 2 more in 2017. In 2018 we got 3 more from my son's school, and in 2019, we got 2 rescues during the year, each were the lone survivors from their respective flocks after an animal attack, and we took them in. Right at the end of 2019 we tried to save another from my son's school flock, but sadly she passed away shortly after the new year. Now in 2020 we are fostering the remaining 7 of the school chickens due to the COVID19 school shutdowns, and hope that once things all go back to normal those ladies will be able to eventually return to their home again! Sadly over the years we have lost a total of 6 due to various sudden illnesses / deaths, but for the most part everyone's happy and healthy!

Right now, I have 16 chickens, plus 7 "foster chickens" ;0)

Here are all the breeds I have right now: 2 Barred Plymouth Rock, 1 Polish Crested, 2 "Easter Egger", 1 Blue Favaucana
(Faverolle-Americauna Blend), 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Australorpe, 1 Mille Fleur DeUccle, 1 White Silkie, 2 Bantam Cochin, 3 Sex-Linked, 1 - Black (looks just like my Australorpe, but she was a rescue and we have no clue what her breed or history, just that she's the lone survivor of her flock after a devastating animal attack), 1 White (no clue on her breed or history - she was found badly injured wandering the streets of Quakertown, and was brought to Last Chance Ranch Rescue, where we adopted her!). Also now fostering 7 "orange" chickens from my son's school - no clue on the breed or history, they were donated to the school by a community member, and they all look identical!

I love the eggs of course, but they are more than that to me - they all have names, and distinct personalities; they are pets...family members. We recognize their birthdays, and I talk to them like they are humans...and they talk back as well! LOL

I enjoy baking, cooking, gardening, and being outside in general. We have 2 tiny Chihuahua mix dogs, and I have an 11 year old son, who I love taking walks and bike rides with. I also like to knit, read, and do puzzles!

I found BYC during various google searches over the years when I have had chicken questions and ailments, so I'd say I have known about BYC for somewhere around 5 years, and it's just taken me this many to decide to really sit down and join :)
