Hello everyone, My name is Janet and I am new to chickens. This year I have started hatching chicks in a home made incubator with my youngest daughter(14) as a project for us to do together. We already tried one small clutch, did not have the best results but I will say(with embarrassment) it was due to human error. I have learned so much from the posts I have read here and now from personal experience and have a much better outlook on our second clutch which we started today.
I live in the city and even though county ordinance says we are allowed to own two barnyard fowl, hubby says no. He gave me his reasons and I agree with him even if I don't like it. With luck I can change his mind. If not, I'm happy to be able to supply chicks for people near me LOL.
This forum has been not only educational but, entertaining too. When I first started reading these forums I was really happy to see how so many people were so willing to offer help as they could, condolences when something didn't work out and happy congratulations when things went splendidly. I am really looking forward to being a part of this community.

Welcome to BYC!

Well, keep working on that hubby and maybe someday you can keep these babies!! But at least he is letting you hatch them. My hubby has all my incubators in lock up so I can't do anymore hatching!!

He THINKS we have enough birds. NEVER enough chickens!!! LOL

Do some reading in our learning center on hatching eggs. Maybe this hatch will go better for you...

If you run into any troubles, you can post questions in our Hatching Eggs forums here...

If you have any questions, that is what we are here for. Welcome to our flock!

They were Americuna and RIR mixes. This clutch had a Lavender Orphington Rooster and so many different hens I can't remember what they all were. Should be some pretty babies. I'm still working on the hubby, I figured with time and eggs he will come to appreciate them, : )
