Hello all. I live and keep poultry in rural Colorado and I'm looking forward to meeting others that raise poultry as well. Even after raising poultry for over three decades, the wildlife will still challenge my efforts. Last spring I lost most all my birds to a fox that not only wiped me out but most of my neighbors as well.

Most of my last summer has been busy hatching Dorkings and raising Cackle Hatchery's AstraWhites and Copper Marans. Along with a young flock of guinea keets. I have a good owl story pertaining to those keets.

Anyway, I feed myself raising poultry and also enjoy their function, presence and entertainment .

Oh how I understand the problems with fox as I had one last year but I finally got the fox and fox are not all that easy to catch with steel traps ether I even watched one walk all over the set trap and not set it off so I had to POP the fox myself ...... [IMG]

    Enjoy you feathered friends [IMG]

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I would love to hear your owl story. When I was raising chickens in Texas, we a pair of nesting Great Horned Owls that were killing and eating the neighbors' cats.( If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Welcome to Backyard chickens - it would be a great idea to check out the predator threads to ask and learn about getting rid of fox. They can climb, jump high, dig under , squeeze
    through and are extremely determined.
