We have used the food grade diatomaceous earth (FG-DE) for keeping mites and lice away for many years, and never had them albeit the scaly leg mites which it doesn't help. But if I ever had an infestation of mites or lice, I would use the garden dust (permethrin powder) as that kills them fast, DE doesn't.
yeah that sounds about right. Yeah you can’t get any medicine without actually paying for a consultation which costs like 700dkki will have a look for those items. My mum is coming over to visit soon so I have told her to bring some lice powder from the UK.
Thank you. I’ll look into it all. Two seem to have the scaly leg mites but I’ve been treating them with a mix of permethrin spray, epsom salt baths and Vaseline on the legs and it seems to be working. One of them has shedded most of the ugly scales and has shiny new ones.
We too used the vaseline. We went in at night and slathered their legs every third day for three times. That did it. The next year, same thing. The third time they got it, we had triple the chickens so we didn't feel like slathering 40 feet and legs, so went with the Ivermectin 5%. One drop on the back of their necks, and repeat in 10 days. There's a hypothetical egg withdrawal period of 7 days, 14 days, or a month. Hubby just ate the eggs anyway saying if he's got worms or mites, it'll do him some good lol.
