Hello from Dubuque, IA

So I went to Theisens and picked up all tbe stuff needed for my brooder and placed a hold on 5 Austies and 5 ISA Browns. They didnt have any BO in stock. I looked at the difference in BO and ISA Browns and thought the browns would make a good substitute. I am picking them up tommorow.
DW and I went and finished some other errands and then came home.
I set up the brooder and now I am just waiting patiently (lol). I appreciate all the advice thus far and I am sure there will be many more questions in the future. 20180321_202009.jpg

They're here! 6 black Austies, 5 ISA Browns. I am sooo eggcited! (Bad pun, but I had too)
They took to eating and drinking quickly and looked healthy enough. Nothing obvious anyway. They are March 13 hatch dates so that puts them at about 10 days old.

Oh I forgot to mention two of the Browns had pasty butt. Thanks to the MANY helpful articles I handled it with minimal fuss and distress to the chicks.
Also, water got spilled in the brooder from the waterer and soaked about half the bedding. I changed it out with dry, moved the waterer to a better spot (hopefully) and will check on them tonight when I wake up at 1or so like I usually do.

Woke up at 3:30am and decided to check on the chicks. They were all doing fine! Found another one with pasty butt so cleaned it up and raised the light.

I rasied the light because I have read here on BYC pasty butt can he caused by too warm of a brooder. I only moved it a few inches or so up.

I did have them eating from my hand this morning and I was able to pick up each of them and inspect them.
