Hello all, the wife (and I sorta) have 4 chickens. I'm something of a builder so I made my wife an 8x12 tractor with a 3x5 coup. Kinda went overboard with the construction but it is pretty easily movable with two ppl It is all aluminum construction with 2 inch insulation surrounding the coup ( cooler in the summer.) Please let us know what you think! We have :

2 buff Orpingtons
2 Plymouth Barred Rocks

Welcome to Backyard Chickens only thing I would change is the latches add another different set to what is there raccoons open those too fast did you add soffits for ventilation
So far no raccoons! No soffit on the coup itself and we are still debating on whether the current ventilation (in the coup is sufficient.) All 4 have started laying. They seem to love the nesting boxes (only 2) We move the tractor about every week or so. As new chicken owners we welcome any suggestions tips or tricks

Nice coop, I wish you would point out the features you have built in. Welcome to BYC.
Here you are (with pics) I found that heat would be the biggest issue in Florida. The ENTIRE coup is insulated to keep the heat out but the girls rarely use the coup during the day. The side of the coup opens for easy cleaning The Waterer is a 3 gallon water system with watering cups the hens peck to get more water (lasts longer than we need it to. Just built the swing today (girls aren't too sure about it yet Feeders are from pvc pipe (again more than we need.) just introduced the pecking block today as well Made the roost because the girls like to hang out close to each other at night I love the look and feel of wood but aluminum will last for a very long time. Realised that I over killed the side latches but this isy first tractor and I didn't want the wife to worry about then while she was gone. The green Pvc pipe was FREE from a local job and they were in the scrap pile Cut in half and added legs to one One of the girls favorite hang outs when it's hot Any other questions please let me know
