Hello From Littleton, CO

Thank you all for the warm welcomes and advice. I've definitely been doing my due diligence to ensure my flock is as safe as possible.

I was originally planning on a 10'x12' coop, but for 10 birds I think I'll run into heating issues, so might just go with a 8'x6' structure. That still allows more than the 4 sq ft per bird recommendation. Plus save some yard space and money in material cost. Hopefully I'll get started on it in the next month or so.

Hi there,

My name is Bill and I live in Littleton also. We (myself and 4 year old daughter) are just starting out. I started building a duck coop and I'm nearly finished. I'm learning quite a bit and don't know enough to ask good questions right now.

My 14 year old niece is my mentor on this. She raises ducks and chickens in Sterling and does pretty well at the county fair with them.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Got my coop up last Monday and then got 5 little ones. They are all different breads: 3 week old Black Australorp and Gold Laced Wyandotte, then 2 week old Easter Egger, Light Brahma, and Barred Rock. I took them out to the coop the next day and let them check it out for about three hours while I did some yard work. They seemed to take to it well, just waiting on the weather to get nice and them to get bigger and they will be permanent residence in it.

Right now they are in a Rubbermaid tote in a spare bedroom, which is interesting since the two older ones can jump out and roam around. In the next week they all will be big enough to do the same, then we'll have our hands full.

Hi Jason,

Do you mind if I ask where you are in Littleton? I'm near Harlow Park near Lowell and Belleview.
