Hi! My name is Steven. My wife and I have a flock of 22 chickens and 3 ducks here in Mechanicsville, MD. We bought a house in March 2018, and it had an Amish built chicken coop on it. Its complete with a rubber lined floor and laying boxes with outside access.
I had angered my wife about something trivial one day and to make it better I bought 4 giant pekin ducks and 4 Turkens. We enjoyed these birds tremendously. So I was drunk on New Years, and the neighbor had told me I could order more birds online. An order of 31 birds was placed and here I am.
I am sure that I will tell plenty of stories about how 35 has turned into 22. We have three roosters. Two are a cross between a Buff laced polish rooster and a Turken hen. They do look crazy. The third rooster is exactly what you would find in your grandmothers house of a painting of a rooster. He was purchased, the other two were hatched. They all get along well!
In my flock we have:
1 Turkin hen
1 Rhode Island Red hen
1 Silkie hen
1 Midget Lavender Orpington hen (She just stopped growing at about 4 weeks but she is healthy).
3 Pheonix hens
2 Whitling True Blue Hens
1 Pekin Bantam hen
1 Welsummer hen
1 Plymouth Rock hen
1 Completely unknown hen
6 Hatched Hens mixed between the Polish Laced Rooster and Turken hen.
Between the cold and a dog that killed 12 chicks we had a rough start but our numbers have leveled out.
Looking forward to sharing and reading more! We love our chickens and the ducks are assholes....dont tell my wife I said that!
