This is my reintroduction since earlier this week I missed the template when I signed up. I am relatively new to chickens as I found a stray a little over a year ago. She is the only one I have and is a Buff Orpington. I enjoy watching her run around the yard, scratching up the dirt and eliminating bugs AND she is the only pet I have that feeds me!! I enjoy all types of plants, but mostly enjoy growing orchids, plumeria, and epiphyllium. I have close to 100 orchids but am truly not addicted to chids. I also have 2 dogs who were rescues along with a Russian Blue cat. I enjoy cooking and reading. Use to travel a little, but have not done so since finding my chicken - tough to board a chicken. I was told about BYC long ago by a friend who is a Veterinarian (when I found the stray) but just recently got on the internet and joined immediately. I look forward to learning a lot!!

Welcome to the forum @sunshine-chick! You are very welcome here!

Is your chicken happy living alone? I read that you should always have at least 3 birds if any.

She seems happy and lays regularly. I was told that too by the Purina Rep. I had never even touched a chicken before she showed up. Figure she came to me and has free range to leave but chooses to stay so must be happy. Apparently didn't like where she lived before. She is very much a pet who just happens to lay eggs. I spend a lot of time with her in my lap.
