Like the others already stated, you should wean them of sleeping in the nest boxes or you will always have poopy eggs and messy chicken butts to take care of.

Awww, thank You! Yes, unfortunately I was just hitting the internet search engine with "how to raise chickens for beginners" & the sites (yes, plural) I came upon covered mainly the basics: shelter/food/care/health/maintenance, but nothing specific as far as where/how they slept. :caf

I wouldn't wait until spring to break them of sleeping in the nest boxes. Block them now with either boxes inside them or board them over.
They need to understand now that those boxes are not for sleeping in.
And they keep their fluff cleaner by pooping off the roost.
