Have fun reading! I do have to warn you though...it was partly because of those focus threads that I have 10 ducklings coming in April. BYC members are such enablers, lol!

What kind?! I was debating on what kind of ducklings I should get, and watching videos etc. And I kept getting directed back to Pekins. I am a little nervous when the hens start to lay that the 1 male I will be getting will start becoming aggressive towards me or my boyfriend. I am SO excited though! Also do you know what breeds would be okay to have along side pekins?

I just could not decide on just one breed (those darned focus threads again!) so I'm getting a mix: Pekin, Buff, Welsh Harlequin, 2 Khaki Campbell, 2 Blue Indian Runners, Blue Swedish, Cayuga, and a white hybrid. The Pekins do get bigger than the others but I'm hoping since they'll be raised together and the Pekins are supposed to be calm birds, that they'll do ok as one flock. I was able to request all females with the exception of the WH (they are unsexed at the hatchery I ordered from) so if I end up with just 1 male that's fine.

It's hard to narrow down breeds, whether you're looking at ducks or chickens, but it's fun!

WOAH look at you go! Yeah my main things I was looking for was a friendly breed that are good layers. Since I really only want to use them for their eggs however I have also been thinking about the possibilities of breeding in the future as well. I am now debating on getting a few of another breed! decisions decisions.

I guess this is the duck equivalent of "chicken math", lol.

Hello Lee!

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC.
Thank you so much
