Hello from NH

@DobieLover and @Wee Farmer Sarah

You both are awesome. My in laws have a button tool so I think I'm going to do that but if I can't get them over its gonna be something like you have set up.

I'll take any advice...I can, especially on a budget.

I've read so many posts on to heat or not to heat or add electricity or not to add it.

I have a wyze camera set up on ext cord out there. What are both of your takes on this?

Or anyone?

Hello J and welcome to BYC! It’s always an extra pleasure to welcome another New Englander to the community. I’m not as industrial as @DobieLover so I use heavy duty clear shower curtains to wrap my run during the cold months. It works well and the chickens can still see outside their little bubble.

I ran electric to my coop. I also run Wyze cameras. The lowest temperatures that my flock has experienced is -23F. I do not heat my coop. But my coop is very well ventilated. This image was captured in Jan last year. Note all the light coming in high up. That is all permanently open ventilation. The pop door under the board is also permanently open to the predator-proof run.

I don’t trust my chickens around electricity so it’s solar and battery operated lanterns for them. I don’t heat either. It’s too risky. If the chickens are used to additional warmth and the power goes out you’ve got a problem. They come with down feather coats so keep them dry and out of the wind and they’ll be fine.
