I am a new BYC member, and have been keeping chickens for about six months. I'm interested in hearing from fellow members in Sonoma County, and I also have a question. My pullets are now of laying age, but are not yet laying, which I have heard is due to the decreased hours of sunlight in the winter. Does anyone know when they might begin, i.e., how many daylight hours are required? Nice to meet you, and thanks much!

A general rule of thumb is 14 hours of light for optimal egg production. Check out Frequently asked questions section! Lots of great info there for new chicken owners!!

Welcome and keep asking questions!!
