I'm very excited about joining the world of backyard chickens. I do not have any just yet, but have been getting the coop and run ready and soon it shall be filled. I am new to raising chickens so I am tossing between getting chicks ( less money up front but more care ) or going straight to pullets ( more money up front but start laying soon ) tough to decide but will depend on if I am able to find some one local to purchase from. I really like the Heritage breeds, so I may have to go with chicks just to be able to find the ones I would like. No matter, I am very happy this is finally happening and look forward to learning from all of you and sharing experiences....
and Welcome To BYC! You could always do both! As long as you have a plan for integrating the flocks, get some pullets so you have eggs fast, and get some chicks or hatching eggs of the rarer breeds you want whenever you can get them! And be sure to check out the Canada thread for any neighbors that may have the breeds you are looking for
