Thanks! I'll check those drug stores.

Hi everybody! Glad to see there are some local folks I can pester to death with chicken questions this summer. If you have any miscellaneous pointers to throw my way before we actually get into the chickens, then hurry. There's a feed store with baby chicks a few miles out of my husband's way on the way home from work.

Hello and Welcome, start reading every thing you can on here. Start with brooders and then go to raising baby chicks from there soak in every thing you can.

Hi Calee!
I am on the west side of Spartanburg county.

I have 2 new shipments of chicks in from Meyer and Welp hatcheries and another due next week. Hummmm, I believe that will give us about 85 new chicks and then we have several hens brooding out some eggs, too!

They are the cutest little chicks.

We hope to get some great eggs from them to eat and give to the soup mission kitchens and maybe sell some, too.

This is a great place to find out info for about everything! And questions asked are usually answered pretty quickly. I have loved being a member here.

I am going to try that res q ointment for my daughter esp. SHe seems to be really allergic to the stings of fireants and it swells up really big every time she gets stung! I use all their other products but haven't tried that.... will look for it now!

Does anyone know if we have any chicken clubs here in SC? Surely there should be something. I would think there would be lots of different clubs for different breeds.
I am sure there is something in Clemson, right?
I was just hoping to have local contacts and clubs are a great way to meet more chickie people with the same interests.

I have just started loving the Barnevelders and think I may get some of that breed. Of course, I really am going to have to build another coop at this rate!

Hi Nadine

I've just read on the other thread that there is Bantam Club in Anderson.
I live in Charleston area and I don't know any chicken people yet!
When I tell people I keep chicken they look at me funny

There sure are more horse keepers though...

Hope you have better luck in finding something-There seems to be more BYC members upstate SC than coastal area.
Meanwhile, let's stick together here on the BYC board...

Hey, I saw that Bantam club answer, too. Which is what made me think about it. However, I couldn't find a listing on the Internet. I don't have much in Bantams except a few Silkies that have just hatched in the last few days.

There does seem to be more people up in this area on this forum. I seem to belong to a lot of groups, too. Darkegg layers, Featherlegs, 101 and such.
I kinda have gone chicken crazy!

You are just so lucky to live near the coast! I visit my nephew and his wife in Summerville as often as I can but they are about to move back up to Columbia. Bummer!
Charleston is my DH, DD and my favorite place. And camping on Hunting Island is the best!
Used to have a life of leisure, now we have chickens!

Summerville! Finally!! The name of a place I know!! haha
And we've camped on Hunting Island too

We are looking for some properties right around Summerville area at the moment. Ridgeville and Jedburg also.
My husband and I are not from this area and we don't have family members close by, but yes, we really like it here.
All we need now is some chicken crazy friends down the street...

Ha! Ha! We have chicken crazy people down the street but they aren't exactly friends. They gave us their culls in Cochin show chickens and now are mad at us because ours have gone broody, hatched some eggs and theirs haven't. Well, duh, we told them you have to give them more room! For 7 Cochins they have an outside run of only 4 sq ft and the coop is 8 sq ft! Chickens or any animal has a hard time reproducing in small environments. It is a survival technique but they won't listen and now won't even talk to us since we bought a lot more chicks and bought eggs that are hatching, too.

Lucky you, finding some land in such a beautiful part of SC! I love it up here too, but the coastal area has my heart. All my summers were spent on the coast till I got married 28 yrs ago and now DH works all the time and it is hard for him to get away. So I would go down for a short visit with family. And I tried not to wear out my welcome.
