I have been getting great info from here, so I joined so that I can participate in the forums. I was given an assortment of 6 chicks from a coworker a few weeks ago. I don't know what breed or sex yet. I look forward to getting help with that once they are a bit older. I also purchased 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks and six mallards from the feed store. So far, so good! They are fat and happy in their brooders. Gotta get busy on a coop soon!

Other than that, we live on 25 beautiful acres in south central Texas. We have 6 dogs, a small herd of goats, and a few head of black and red brangus and angus cattle. Spring is baby season around here. We have had 18 kids born in the past week with 2 mama goats still to deliver. One of our cows calved yesterday, and 2 more due soon.

Hi Kathy, nice to meet you. You can post photos of your chicks - when they are about 6-8 weeks old, at "what breed or gender is this." Meanwhile, thank you for joining the BYC flock.[IMG]

Welcome to BYC and the poultry keeping obsession! So glad you've joined our flock here. As noted above, once the birds have matured a bit more you can post photos and we can likely help you sort out breeds and genders. You mentioned your co-worker gifted them to you - were they hatched from that person's flock - if so, it can help to ask them what breed(s) they keep.

Yes, she hatched them from her flock and a friend's. They have buff orpingtons, brahmas, armeracunas, easter eggers, marans, and mixes of those.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock or herds, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out [IMG]
