While searching the internet I stumbled upon BYC and knew this was just what I needed. We have moved out onto 4 acres and I am finally getting closer to being able to be a bit more self sustainable. This year I am excited to start a flock of laying hens. (I have been in love with those pictures of the rainbow egg baskets.)

Having never owned chickens before, BYC has already been so helpful in helping me figure out how to raise a safe & healthy flock. I am looking forward to connecting with the chicken community.

Welcome to BYC! what breeds are you planning on getting?

I am still trying to source out where I can get Marans, Americanas, Legbars, and some Olive Eggers in my part of Canada. The main hatcheries here are out of the equation as they require a minimum of 25 birds per order, and I have promised my husband that we should be only needing a flock of about 10. I would love to support a small local hatchery if (or should I say when) I find one.
