Hello everybody.

Thank you for such a great resource.

My Dad used to keep hens when I was about 5, and having moved to the countryside here felt the need to have some for our family. We have kids who are old enough to appreciate them.

So on Wednesday I got 6 Warren Pullets from a local free range egg supplier in Dinmore, and have been watching them settle in.

I had my first problem last night though. Going to put them in the coup just before dusk, and found that 3 were perched on a post in the corner of the run (I cant have clipped the one wing enough), one was 8 feet up a leylandai tree, one was in the coup , but ONE WAS MISSING :(....

We searched for about an hour, and couldnt hear or see a whisper from "clucky" (who has been since named)..

Unbelivably even though theres loads of foxes in the area, she survived the night and was found first thing, right next to the coup talking to me...

Just shows how intelligent they are, and how those natural survival instincts are still working well!
