I've been reading you guys for quite a while, and am (since a couple of weeks) the happy owner of two lovely (and slightly silly) chickens.
My significant other had initially thought of getting silkies, but you can only get teeny tiny ones here, and therefore only count on teeny tiny eggs... Which would have been a problem (we're big egg eaters, at least three each per week if not more)
So off we went to a local agricultural fair and fell in love with pretty little blue Jackie and funny little cuckoo Tuning, supposedly 21 weeks old at the time (but I suspect that Tuning is a touch younger, and not the marans that she was sold as).
They've settled down quite well in their house that the mister and his friends built for them, taught the cat who's boss and learned to dive for cover when they hear the excited dog's collar chime (we're working on teaching him that chickens are friends not food, and he's a good learner).
I'll have a ton of questions of course, being a first time owner, and am really looking forward to your expert advice!
Lucie
