New to the forum and wanted to say hello!

Recently acquired 3 chickies for my family of 3. I had many chickens (RIRs, Barred Rocks, Araucaunas, etc) as a kid, amongst our zoo of other animals (including a miniature donkey and about 50 show rabbits!) We have 2 Dixie Rainbows and 1 Buff Orpington. They will be 2 weeks tomorrow, and so far we are not sure if we got any pullets, as they are all feisty! One Dixie (named Kava) is twice as big as the other two chicks but is generally calm. The other Dixie is not yet named, and is the smallest of the bunch. The Buff is named Dublin, as she was double the size of the others, and may well be at least twice as fluffy!

I have been lurking on BYC for a little while, and am glad to join! Will have to post pictures of our (hopefully) gals soon!

+10 points to whoever guesses what state we're in! :)

PS - The avatar is our lovely late barn cat Tyler, who passed away a few months ago to kitty cancer :(

Welcome to BYC!

So sorry about your cat. They do get deep into your heart and it is never easy to lose them.

As for what state you are in, I have no idea. But it sounds freezing!

Enjoy all those new babies and if you have any questions, that is what we are here for.

Welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! The Old North State as in the state song of North Carolina? Sounds like you have a nice little flock, and a herd of rabbits! Not sure if you have seen it, but BYC's sister site Back Yard Herds has a whole forum on rabbits http://www.backyardherds.com/ Sorry about the loss of your cat, that is a cute picture of him.

Thanks all!

I used to have rabbits et al as a kid, but no longer do :) We do have 3 bok bok's, 5 horses, two barn kitties, and various dogs that visit from the neighbors!

North Carolina is right! :)

It's pretty decent here today! The beginning of a *beautiful* Appalachian Spring; 75 or thereabouts, and predicted to be so for at least 2 weeks!

Good luck with your chicken raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know! Glad to have you with us. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)!
It is the best place to go for advice! Sorry about your cat.

Is your state North Carolina?

North Carolina is my state :) Here is a picture of our girls(?!) - all hatched on the same day, if you can believe it.
